Approximately 29 million plastic milk containers that could be recycled go straight to landfill instead

Understanding the impact of plastic packaging

In Aotearoa we love milk, but unfortunately, most milk comes in plastic packaging made from oil-based compounds that are not sustainable.

And, while every time we finish a bottle we hope it will be recycled, it’s not always the case. Of the 1.76 billion plastic containers Kiwi households place in their kerbside or council recycling each year, the single-use bottle is the most common. 14 percent of milk bottles are put in rubbish bins. This means every year approximately 29 million plastic milk containers that could be recycled go straight to landfill instead*.

Tracking your Synlait Swappa Bottle's impact

We’ve developed the Synlait Swappa Bottle to be reused time and time again before being 100 percent recycled.

You can track its journey and see how you’re reducing plastic waste. Simply scan the QR code on the base of the bottle with your mobile and you'll see how many times it's been refilled, and how many single-use plastic bottles it’s replaced.

In the near future, we’re excited to launch a personalised, opt-in dashboard where you can track your own contribution to reducing plastic waste by getting your milk in Synlait Swappa Bottles. Sign up to stay in the loop!
