When using a stainless steel bottle, there are several precautions to keep in mind to ensure safety, hygiene, and durability:
1. Avoid Storing Acidic or Salty Liquids for Long Periods
Acidic drinks like lemon juice, vinegar, or tomato-based liquids, and salty solutions can corrode the inner lining over time if left too long.
Drink these liquids soon and clean the bottle afterward.
2. Do Not Use for Hot Liquids Unless Specified
Only use stainless steel bottles that are double-walled or insulated for hot beverages.
Single-wall bottles can become too hot to touch and cause burns.
3. Clean Regularly and Thoroughly
Rinse daily and deep-clean weekly (with baking soda, vinegar, or bottle-cleaning tablets).
Use a bottle brush to reach inside.
4. Avoid Using Bleach or Harsh Cleaners
Harsh chemicals can damage the steel and leave residues.
Stick to mild detergents or natural cleaners like vinegar and baking soda.
5. Check for Rust or Damage
While stainless steel is rust-resistant, it's not rust-proof. Inspect your bottle regularly for any rust spots or corrosion, especially at the seams or cap threads.
6. Do Not Microwave
Stainless steel is metal and should never go in the microwave. It can cause fires or damage your appliance.
7. Use Food-Safe, High-Quality Bottles
Make sure the bottle is labeled as food-grade (usually 304 or 18/8 stainless steel).
Cheap or counterfeit bottles might not be safe for daily use.
